Setting up your PC for Geekfest
For installing network protocol in Windows XP and 2000:
If you already have an existing NIC (Network Interface Card), click here.
If you do not have a NIC already installed, and have one provided for you at Geekfest, click here.
(Instructions for those that have a NIC)
First off, you need to go to your Network Settings - so click Start, then click Control Panel, then click Network and Internet Connections as shown below.

Next, you will need to click on Network Connections, as shown below.

From there, you should a window that looks like the one shown below. You will need to right-click on Local Area Connection, and then click on Properties to bring up the properties window. (For WinXP SP2 users, you might have to click on the ‘Network Tasks’ tab in the left-hand column to view this screen below.)

Next, find an item in the list that says something along the lines of Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then right-click on that and choose Properties.

Now, you must click on Use the Following IP address: and simply type in the address assigned to your station. An example is shown below (xxx will be the number given to you when you arrive or set up your PC).

Then click ok wherever needed, and close all Networking windows and you should be all set to go. Some PC might need to be rebooted at this point. Also, ask a server operator if for some reason you need to borrow a Windows XP cd to install this protocol. Now you are good to go!
Please note, if you have the Windows firewall running (or any other firewall), please make sure it is configured to allow access to the games you use. Consult the game’s technical support, or ask someone who might know.
